K-12 Online Conference 2010
Presentation Title: Inside ITGS: Cyber-Students Share their Connected Learning
Inside ITGS is about classrooms globally coming together to form an online learning community for the IB subject Information Technology in a Global Society. Madeleine Brookes from Western Academy Beijing and Julie Lindsay from Beijing (BISS) International School, both in China, explore the impact of virtual communication and collaboration and feature the students from pioneer classrooms in a rare face-to-face meeting. It is through their eyes, as cyber-students, that we will learn more about how to use emerging technologies and build stronger more effective learning communities.

Apple Leadership Summit (Hong Kong) 24-26 April 2010
Presentation: Reinventing Western Academy of Beijing
Madeline Brookes and Sheldon Bradshaw
The Western Academy of Beijing has been a regional leader in the use of educational technology since its inception in 1994. As a 1 to 1 school from grades 3 to 12, what changes have taken place and what changes still need to be made? This session will give an overview of WAB’s journey, both successes and challenges, and their roadmap for the future.
Presentation: Moving to a 1 to 1 Environment: A Model for Professional Development
Ann Martin, William Martin, and Madeleine Brookes
Teachers vary tremendously in their knowledge and implementation of technology tools. At Nanjing International School, we are faced with a plethora of newness: moving to the Mac platform, iWork and iLife, implementing a 1 to 1 laptop program, and an abundance of Web 2.0 tools. Our challenge was to design a two day in-service that would address some of these needs, get all teachers engaged and allow teachers’ creativity to blossom. This workshop will show you all facets of this successful endeavor. It incorporates a mystery theme, learning stations, group work, topic experts, project based learning, creativity, exit interviews and fun! Come join us as we recreate all the elements of this in-service from planning to finished products.
